Nice easy hike. Welcome back to part two of my late fall trip to Sycamore Canyon, AZ! The Sycamore trail will take you through narrow switchbacks, once you reach the open path, if you go right you’ll end up at the tower, if you go left you’ll just be hiking for a bit (you should see the temple). 1,174 ft. Altitude start. Take PCH north until you spot Sycamore Canyon Campgrounds on the left of the highway. There is a $10 fee to park in the Big Sycamore Canyon Day Use Area. The Martha Grove section is really nice and so is the section on the ridgeline. If you are coming down Sycamore Canyon from Newbury park then you will either have to ride up the downhill side Guadalasca itself or make your way up Hell Hill to Guadalasca North and ride up a little farther from there. Overall pretty nice trail to go! Sycamore Canyon 3 Else, park outside. 1,131 ft. Grade-0.055%. Free parking can be found along PCH outside the entrance. Move over crowed Iron mountain! From here, follow the trail up the canyon along the creek. This is one way and you have to come back all the way in time to avoid $170 parking violation fine. This is a nice quick trail hike when short with time. The trail offers a number of activity options and is accessible year-round. I don’t use trekking poles often (only once for El Cajon Mountain) but I think they would be beneficial here if you have a pair laying around.
