May, 2000: AJB and Sponsors Went to Cuba

The American Jewish Ballet Company presented a special program in Cuba at the end of May, 2000 The AJB presents ballets based on Jewish themes, both Biblical and modern including a Holocaust piece called "Remembrance."

In addition to performing for the Jewish community, AJB presented its program at El Gran Teatro de la Habana,  and in Teatro Caridad in Santa Clara.  The performances allowed the Jewish population to interact with Jewish themes from a different perspective than in the past, one that was particularly useful for those in the community with limited Jewish cultural or religious background.  In addition, this was a golden opportunity to bring a new awareness of Jewish life to the non-Jewish population of Cuba and to Cuba's visiting tourists.
